Ides of Strangers

This is a special theme because I mix two different songs: Ides of March and Afraid to shoot strangers, and sometimes it works really good but some others sounds a bit weird. My original idea was to record Ides alone but then the Afraid's main melody comes to my mind and I try to put both together, and at the beginig sounds cool but the end was difficult to arrange but finally I did it !!

Then I tried to add the other melodies from Afraid and an arpegiated part played by me on guitars (I needed lot of time to record this part, it's difficult that sounds clean and in time).

The middle slow part (the calm before the storm) is based on the same Ides' progression and I play it 2 times, first one in minor mode, and second one in major mode. You can notice that there is the melody from the begining of Afraid to Strangers a bit arranged to work good with the Ides' progression.

Last part is the main riffs but with lot of guitars playing the beatiful harmonies and as I didn't know how to end the song and I love this part I decided to make a simple face out.

I think it's a song than only great fans could appreciate because sometimes it's difficult to apreciate the different parts, but anyway I wish you enjoy.

A diferencia de los últimos temas éste es un tema especial porque combina de forma un tanto sorprendente dos temas que poco tienen que ver entre sí, tanto a nivel compositivo como en el tiempo: Ides of March y Afraid to Shoot Strangers. En realidad la idea original fue grabar Ides of March pero después de trabajar en los primeros compases vino a mi cabeza la melodía de Afraid to Shoot Strangers y probé de cuadrarla con la base que ya tenía. Al principio todo encajó perfectamente pero la segunda parte fue bastante más complicada de arreglar, en parte por la larguísima vuelta de la que consta Ides, el doble de lo que sería normal y de lo que es en Afraid. Finalmente conseguí empastar ambas partes incluyento una pequeña parte del estribillo cuando canta precisamente "Afraid to shoot strangers".

Una vez hecha la melodía principal sólo faltaba arreglar el resto de melodías para encajar con la eterna rueda de Ides que se repite a lo largo de los 5 minutos y pico que dura el tema. Incluso me he permitido grabar un arpegio que me ha llevado bastante tiempo por lo complicado de hacerlo sonar limpio y a tiempo.

La parte del medio (calma antes de la tormenta) se base de nuevo en la progresión de Ides pero realizada la primera vuelta en menor y la segunda en mayor. En la segunda se aprecia la melodía que es un arreglo del solo de entrada de Afraid, aunque interpretado en 4/4 en lugar de en 6/8 original. En realidad esa misma melodía se repite en la primera vuelta en menor, pero al ser dificil de identificar por el cambio de compás y de tonalidad supongo que es en la segunda vuelta cuando se puede percibir.

La última parte consta nuevamente de los riffs principales que son lo más destacable del tema con el añadido de multiples guitarras armonizando la progresión principal de Ides of March. Finalmente como no sabía realmente como acabar el tema de forma consistente y debido a lo pegadizo de estas melodías acordé conmigo mismo hacer un face out para dejar ese buen sabor de boca polifónico.

En conclusión creo que es un tema que sólo los grandes fans de Iron Maiden podrán apreciar al 100% pero espero que con mis explicaciones se entienda un poco mejor de donde salen todas esas melodías que no son en realidad invención mía si no una adaptación de las melodías existentes en los temas. Espero que disfrutéis del tema.

After a hard work during the last weeks I can say that the YouTube account is finally released !! Thanks to Helio Valero for his amazing work in the presentation and ending video, really profesional.

Después de un duro trabajo realizado durante las últimas semanas podemos decir desde Symphonic Iron Maiden que la cuanta por fin ha sido convenientemente inaugurada. Y que mejor forma de inaugurarla que con el vídeo de presentación, la careta de entrada de los futuros vídeos que iremos subiendo de forma conjunta con cada nuevo tema. 

Muchas gracias a Helio Valero por el increíble trabajo de edición en los vídeos tanto de presentación como de despedida, ha realizado un montaje muy profesional.

The Trooper

This is an amazing song written in 1983 by Steve Harris and first of all must say that it was extremly difficult to arrange into a Symphonic cover, anyway I wish you have fun listening and enjoy the arrangements and vocals.

About the theme, The Trooper is the 5th song from the album Piece of Mind, and was previously released in the second single for this album. This song is based on the Charge of the Light Brigade at the Battle of Balaclava in 1854 during the Crimean War.

It's a song that Iron Maiden plays often in its shows and Bruce Dickinson uses to wear the red jacket and the British flag.

About the cover just say thanks to the amazing singer Mireia Lucas, who did an amazing work on this. Obviusly my intention was not to go in the Iron Maiden style but also in a more operistic way, because Dickinson is imposible to imitate, specially on this track.

Esta excelente canción fue escrita en 1983 por Steve Harris y lo primero que deseo remarcar es la dificultad que representa tratar de versionar y arreglar un tema tan potente como éste. De todos modos espero que os divirtáis escuchandolo y disfrutéis de los arreglos y las voces.

Sobre el tema decir que The Trooper es la quinta canción del album Piece of Mind, aunque previamente salió al mercado en el segundo single de álbum. Este tema habla sobre la la batalla de Balaclava en 1854 durante la guerra de Crimea.

Se trata de un tema que Iron Maiden toca a menudo en sus conciertos y durante el cual Bruce Dickinson suele uniformarse con el traje rojo que aparece en la ilustración mientras bate una enorme bandera británica.

Volviendo a mi versión sólo me queda agradecer la ayuda de Mireia Lucas, quien ha hecho un excelente trabajo. Obviamente mi intención con las voces ha sido desmarcarme del estilo Dickinson que es muy difícil de imitar, especialmente en este tema, y explorar una vía más operística.

Losfer words

This theme is the 3rd one in the Powerslave Album, and it's a very special song because is an instrumental song. Iron Maiden only released 2 instrumental songs, Transilvania and Losfer Words.
I add a piano introduction based on the main riff and a long development of one of the last riffs with a very beautiful melody. I wish you enjoy my work on this theme.



Este tema es el tercero del album Powerslave, y se trata de un tema especial porque es un tema instrumental, cosa que no es habitual en Iron Maiden ya que apenas tienen dos temas así, siendo el otro Transilvania.
He añadido una breve introducción de piano basada en el riff principal del tema asi como un largo desarrollo de uno de los últimos riff que es uno de mis favoritos y que ha dado muchímo juego con los oboes, flautas y clarinetes del final y la subida de cuerdas. Lo único malo es que no he podido mantener el final original, aunque sin duda lo recuperaré en otra canción a modo de guiño. Espero que disfrutéis de mi trabajo en este tema.

Be Quick or Be Dead

Next cover is the first single from the Fear of the Dark Album and it was released in 1992. This was also included in the Carmaggedon video game and talks about the Robert Maxwell banking scandal. It's really faster than other songs and has a very heavy guitar riffs and interesting solos, and that's the reason why I decided to record solos too.

I must say I've added a risky part near the end of the song with a funky feel, so I wish you don't want killing me for doing this crazy stuff.

La siguiente versión fue el primer single del album Fear of the Dark, que fue editado en el año 1992. Como nota curiosa el tema también fue incluido en el polémico videojuego "Carmaggedon", y trata del escándalo bancario protagonizado por Robert Maxwell. Es un tema realmente más rápido de lo que viene siendo habitual y posee una guitarras muy poderosas y unos solos muy interesantes, razón por la que he decidido grabar también solos en este tema.

Debo añadir que he incluido una parte bastante arriesgada cerca del final con una clara influencia funky, solo espero que os guste y que mis dudas sobre si incluirla o no se hayan resuelto satisfactoriamente.
